Parole strictly means our word of honour and in that sense signifies a promise to conform to whatever laws are appropriate with awareness, spiritual laws. To be on parole indicates that there is some way in which we feel we have offended against natural laws. When we give someone else parole we are aware that we can trust them to act with honour. To have been judged by a higher authority and then to have been put on parole suggests that someone who in real life has some kind of authority over us is trusting us to do our best, but that trust is conditional on a job well done.
