Tsvetkov’s Dream Book

Tsvetkov’s Dream Book was compiled by the writer and researcher of esotericism Yevgeny Tsvetkov, whose books on dreams became popular in the 1990s. The interpretations are short and specific, and symbols are explained as predictions: whether an image promises luck, trouble, news or change. The author combines folk omens with astrological and esoteric ideas. It is handy for a quick answer; for details, read the fuller interpretations of other authors.

About this dream book

History of the dream book

Yevgeny Tsvetkov is the author of popular books on dreams, astrology and esotericism that were published in large numbers in the 1990s. His “Dream Book” became one of the most widespread in the post-Soviet countries: its short entries were easy to reprint and were included in many compiled editions.

Tsvetkov drew on folk omens, old 19th-century dream books and his own ideas about astrology. He also attached importance to the day on which a dream occurred, but the site presents only his dictionary of images.

In Soviet times dream books were almost never published, and in the 1990s popular authors such as Tsvetkov effectively created a new market for this literature. His books came out in large print runs, and his short entries spread through newspapers and calendars.

What the interpretations are like

Most entries are a list of variants separated by semicolons: “long nails — deceived hopes; short — haste; cutting them — failures”. Detailed entries exist but are rare. “See also” links lead to related images.

The dream book is large and gives clear-cut answers, so it is convenient as a first point of reference, with details to be sought in more thorough authors.
